2.1. Scale of Trafficking in Persons in Uganda
Trafficking in persons in Uganda is a significant problem. Uganda is a source, transit, and destination country for victims of trafficking.[1]
Measuring trafficking in persons is difficult given the hidden nature of the crime and limitations in data. However, various studies and datasets help to identify the nature and scale of the problem in Uganda. Two key forms of data help to understand the scale of trafficking in persons: (1) data on recorded or ‘known’ cases; and (2) estimates of the full extent of the phenomenon including ‘unknown’ cases.
